Top 10 Tuesday: Books I’d Gladly Throw Into the Ocean

TTT (Top 10 Tuesday) is a weekly meme created by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is 10 Books I’d Gladly Throw Into the Ocean (lol, I really enjoyed this prompt). All of the books on this list were rated wither 1 or 2 stars and to be honest, I really wouldn't mind if I never saw them again. Each of this is a one word summary (sometimes two) which I think explains my reasoning for them being on this list really well. I don't think they need more explaining!

1. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Sexist.

2. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton

Boring.

3. 13 minutes by Sarah Pinborough

Unmemorable.

4. The Truth and Lies of Ella Black by Emily Barr

Annoying MC.

5. The Rain by Virginia Bergin

Annoying MC (again eek).

6. Girl Online by Zoe Sugg

Childish.

7. The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Repetitive.

8. An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Pretentious.

9. The Witch Doesn't Burn in This One by Amanda Lovelace

Problematic.

10. The Seagull by Anton Chekhov

Confusing.

I hope nobody got offended by this list (it's just my opinions), let me know in the comments if you agree or if not, or which books you'd gladly throw in the ocean!

Books and bouquets. x

  1. The Road was repetitive for sure. Did you finish it? I did like the last scene, but it's still not something I'd read again.

    1. Yeah I did finish it; I read it a couple of years ago and can't say I actually remember what the last scene was 😬

  2. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender has a beautiful cover, I can see why you were tempted to read it but I think I wouldn't enjoy it, either. John Green couldn't convince me, either, though I have not read this one. "The Road", while I don't like science fiction, I love dystopian novels, so that's the only one on your list we might disagree on. Still, there are better ones around, I grant you.

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    1. It is beautiful, isn't it? And everyone was talking about it a few years ago, so I thought id give it a try, but it's just not for me - way too flowery. It's definitely the worst of John Greens (which is saying something). I adore dystopian too, this one just didn't live up to my expectations unfortunately.
      Thanks for visiting!

  3. I got all caught up in the bleakness of The Road. I didn't love it, but I admired it. Probably the most bleak book I have ever read.

    1. Yeah maybe it was intentional! It just sadly didn't work for me

  4. I remember putting Beautiful Disaster on my TBR years ago, then I started hearing that the book had a lot of problems.

    1. Yeah I read it recently because a lot of people were saying it was their favourite adult romance, but it was just gross in my opinion...

  5. I also hated Beautiful Disaster. What a trash book.

  6. Sometimes all you need to describe a book is one word! I'm sorry these didn't work out for you. I haven't read any of them, but I have to say that none of them are books I would be interested in anyway.

    Happy TTT!

    1. A lot of these I read a couple of years ago, and now I know my taste better I know they wouldn't be for me anyways! We love to see some growth and learning your own personal taste 🥰

  7. This is good to know since I've seen a few of these around! Ava Lavender and Beautiful Disaster I've looked at before...

The Road I've always been curious about but heard it's super dark, so I've just... skipped it haha!

    1. I think Ava is worth a shot if you like flowery kind of writing (...and no real plot) and the road is probably the best book on this list, it just dragged sometimes!

  8. I haven't read any of these, which after reading your thoughts makes me glad!

  9. I haven't read any of these, but beautiful disaster and the Ava Lander (or whatever) is on my TBR list. Maybe I can now throw them off and make the load a bit lighter.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. Yeah, in my opinion they're probably not worth it... there's a multitude of more worthy books out there 😊
      You're welcome!

  10. Thanks for stopping by mine! I like how you were able to give your reasons in one (or two) word. I haven't read any of these, but those all sound like good reasons.

    1. It's all the justification I needed to not like them, to be frank. And you're welcome!

  11. Ava Lavendar is such a glorious cover and title, what a shame it did not do it for you! And I loved the language in The Road, but it was so so bleak! I thought the repetitiveness was sort of the point!
These are the books I chose that belong in the sea, only because they feature the sea prominently!

    1. I know and everyone seemed to love Ava as well! I think perhaps that may have been the point, but it just wasn't an enjoyable experience to be honest. I'll take a look at yours now - thanks for stopping by!

  12. Yeah, An Abundance of Katherines was just ok. I liked the premise but it didn't go anywhere interesting.

    1. It was as if they were trying to show off "how smart they were" without actually having any plot to the book... it's a no from me.
